Recommendation for Specific Illnesses:

Scientific Evidence on Wet Cupping (Hijama)

  • Oxidative Stress Reduction: A study in the Journal of Traditional and Complementary Medicine indicated that wet cupping could reduce oxidative stress markers in the blood, suggesting a potential detoxifying effect .

Inflammation and Immune Response:

  • Anti-Inflammatory Effects: Wet cupping has been shown to reduce inflammatory markers in some studies. A study in the Journal of Inflammation found that cupping therapy might decrease levels of inflammatory cytokines, thereby reducing inflammation .

  • Immune System Modulation: Some research indicates that cupping may influence the immune system. For example, a study published in BMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine reported changes in immune function following cupping therapy, which could explain some of its healing effect

Skin and Tissue Health:

  • Improved Skin Conditions: Cupping therapy has been reported to improve skin health by increasing blood flow and promoting healing. Anecdotal evidence and some clinical observations suggest benefits for conditions like acne and eczema .

Psychological and Mental Health Benefits:

  • Stress and Anxiety Reduction: Some studies suggest that cupping therapy may have a calming effect on the nervous system, potentially reducing stress and anxiety levels. This is supported by findings in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, which observed reduced stress markers in participants .
